Introductory Workshop with Counter Balance and Carbon Trade Watch
Tuesday 19th November, 2013 7:15-9pm. Free by registration. The Chaplaincy Centre, 1 Bristo Square, Edinburgh, EH8 9AL
Join European experts Berber Verpoest, Counter Balance and Tamra Gilbertson, Carbon Trade Watch for an exploration of where the financial crisis meets the natural world.
Big banks and international organisations are making a push to put a price on nature so it can be bought and sold as a commodity. This has already been tried (and failed) with markets for
carbon pollution, but it could lead to markets for clean water, forests and even biodiversity.
In November the UN is hosting the first ‘World Forum on Natural Capital’ to plan how to expand the market in nature. Join our workshop to find out what’s really going on and how we can make a difference to protect our common natural resources.
Access information: the Chaplaincy Centre ground floor, where this event will take place, is entirely step-free, and toilets are available on the same level. Pleased be advised that a PA system will not be used for this event. Use the contact us form if you have any queries at all.
This event is organised by Carbon Trade Watch and Counter Balance and is hosted by Edinburgh University People & Planet Society.
You can also join this event on Facebook.
The workshop will lead up to Thursday’s Forum on Natural Commons with speakers and dinner at Augustine Church.
